Posted Friday, October 19, 2018

The Institute for Gender and Development Studies continues their Lunchtime Seminar series with a presentation by Tammy Kremer on the topic, If We Only Knew: Birth Stories of Trinidad and Tobago.

The seminar takes place on October 24 at noon at the IGDS Seminar Room.

Background

Tammy Kremer is a Fulbright grantee working on a project called "If We Only Knew: Birth Stories of Trinidad and Tobago": a YouTube channel comprised of interviews with mothers who have given birth in the last 3 years, doctors, midwives, doulas, and other stakeholders. The goal is that women and their families in TT have access to the stories of their peers and the perspectives of a variety of care providers as they prepare for their own labor and delivery, as well as collecting perspectives on how to improve birth conditions. The project is supported by the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Midwives, Mamatoto, the Doula Alliance, Womantra, and the Institute for Gender and Development Studies. The project is funded by the Fulbright grant of the US State Department.   Tammy Kremer is a filmmaker, theater artist, educator, and activist who has been working in medical communications. She is a trained doula and looks forward to practicing soon. Both of her degrees are interdisciplinary with a focus on research-based art practice. Her MA is in Arts and Social Justice from New York University and her BA is in Gender and Dance from the University of California, Berkeley.
