The International Office hosts the fourth instalment of International Week or iWeek under the theme, Technology, Art and Culture: The Caribbean Potential.
Look out for a series of educational, cultural and recreational events designed to foster interest in our global community as follows:
January 21 to February 8 | Student Art Competition:
January 31 | Study Abroad Fair | 10am to12.45pm, Learning Resource Centre (LRC) Greens) – Learn about Mobility opportunities available to staff and students.
January 31 | Global Citizenship Dialogue | 1 to 3.30pm, Learning Resource Centre (LRC) Auditorium. Look out for a Q&A with featured guest, Kheston Walkins (see more info below), a neuroscientist with a background in neurophysiology, cancer and experimental neuroscience.
February 1 | International Dress Day for UWI staff only:
February 1 | Technology Display | 11.30am to 2.30pm, JFK Quadrangle | Look out for a display of UWI faculties’ technological achievements as well as new technology from leading local tech companies such as Nerds International, Allegori – MindArt, Niherst and Huawei T&T. All are invited. Special Feature: Create Art with your Mind at the MindArt Session with Allegori (hyperlinked) and UWI PhD Student Kheston Walkins. MindArt is an interactive experience where users' memories become generative art for stretched canvas, using EEG (electroencephalography). Pre-register by paying the $150 fee to the account number: 29039-5507-5501-3 at the Cashier’s desk during business hours at the Campus Bursary.
About Kheston Walkins
He studied Neuroscience out of the University of Sussex in Brighton England and is a PhD candidate in Molecular Genetics at The University of the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago. He is currently patenting a tool for data driven cancer diagnosis. He has over 7 years’ experience in marketing and interactive advertising.
Walkins created MindArt which is a product/ service where brain activity is turned into art. Effectively turning your memories into a tangible piece for memorabilia.
He is also young entrepreneur from Trinidad and Tobago who was selected to attend the Young Leaders of the America’s Initiative, 2016 (YLAI) by the United States Department. This was an initiative of President Barack Obama that brought together Social and Business Entrepreneurs from across Latin America and the Caribbean.
