About the Outdoor Sketching Session

Pack a clipboard, some paper, your iPad, a ballpoint pen, charcoal and more. Join artist Donald “Jackie” Hinkson for a plein-air/outdoor sketching session. Participants will meet the artist at the UWI and tour parts of the campus, with the aim of drawing whatever catches the eye. Get an opportunity to create side-by-side with an artist who has decades of experience. Although not intended to be an instructional, learn-to-draw class, Hinkson will share his personal approaches to image making. This event celebrates Jackie Hinkson’s recent gift of over 70 of his sketchbooks to the UWI Alma Jordan Library. Hinkson has been using sketchbooks since the mid-1980s to visually document a range of subject matter, including family, architecture, landscapes, seascapes, cricket, carnival, faces, ideas for murals and studies of toes, hands and fingers.
