The Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMS) of the University of the West Indies (UWI) at the St. Augustine Campus was established 25 years ago in 1989 located in the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC). There were three Schools, namely the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine producing Doctors, Dentists and Vets. The Pharmacy Program began in 1995 and became the School of Pharmacy in 2008. The FMS further expanded with the opening of the School of Advanced Nursing Education in 2005 and more recently with the Optometry program.
In the past 20 years the Faculty has graduated over 3,000 doctors, 405 dentists and nearly 300 Vets.
In celebration of the 25th Anniversary, the faculty is having a week of activities from March 15, 2015 so look out for more activities and check out the "One Health" Fair!
