History Fest - A celebration of History

The Department of History presents "History Fest" a week of activities featuring historical events. Check out the schedule below. 

Monday 16 March: Library Display Opens

Venue: Ground floor, Alma Jordan Library

Items on display include: 

  • Oldest artefact (currently stored in Archaeology centre)
  • Photos of archaeology students on field exercises
  • Other historical photos of academic and non-academic staff
  • History students overseas: Kenya; Ghana-Togo; on student exchange; etc

Other displays at JFK Quadrangle; corridor display. 

Tuesday 17 March: Mid-Day Panel on the topic, "History and the Black Power Movement". 

  • Venue: Audio-Visual Room, Alma Jordan Library, 3rd Floor at noon-1.30pm
  • Panellists: Prof Brinsley Samaroo, Dr. Rita Pemberton, Mr. Aiyegoro Ome, Mr. Kafra Kambon, Chair, Dr. Olabisi Kuboni

 Wednesday 18 March: Mid-Day Panel on the topic "Historians in Politics and Government".

  • Venue: Audio-Visual Room, Alma Jordan Library, 3rd Floor, noon-1.30 pm.

Thursday 19 March: Dinner, 7pm, by invitation only. 

Friday 20 March: Fourth instalment in the History Staff seminar series:“The Price of Conscience: Howard Noel Nankivell and Labour Unrest in the British Caribbean in 1937 and 1938”. 

  • Panelist: Prof. Brinsley Samaroo
  • Venue: CLL, lecture room 2, Critical Thinking Building at 10am.
