Dept. of Physics Services: Equipment Repairs, Electron Microscopy + more

Check out the following Services offered by the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST):

Service 1: The Electronics Workshop – Repair and Evaluation Services

You can get the following equipment assessed, evaluated and/or repaired:

  • Office equipment – laptop/PC, A/V equipment
  • Maintenance of multimedia equipment – projectors, amplifiers etc.
  • Electronic lab equipment: Centrifuges, pH meters etc.
  • Equipment life cycle evaluation

The Department of Physics also has equipment operators who can perform maintenance and equipment care.

Service 2: X – Ray Diffraction Facility

The Bruker D2 Phaser provides users with superior data quality with ease-of-use technology. Rated the world’s best benchtop XRD system, users are guaranteed accurate analysis results with the full DIFFRAC.SUITE software available.

Services include:

  • Sample preparation | Peak Identification | Qualitative analysis

This service provides mineralogical data to particulate samples and can be used to determine the nature of fine powder samples.

Service 3: Electron Microscopy Unit

The Electron Microscopy Unit provides high resolution, high magnification imaging, of a wide range of biological and material specimens.

Services include:

  • Transmission Electron Microscope
  • Enables the visualization of ultra- structure of biological and non-biological materials.
  • Scanning Electron Microscope
  • Allows high resolution imaging of surfaces

Electron Microscopy can be used for the following applications:

  • Plant and animal tissue | Dental Research | Bacteria | Fossils | Material Sciences
