October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Posted Thursday, October 21, 2021

The theme for this year's international recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month is 'RISE.'  According to the US based National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) the past year has posed a challenge to just about everything, and breast cancer prevention is no exception. Although there were setbacks in screenings and early detection, they are encouraging us to rise to the challenge together. Click here to take a look at a video from the NBCF on this year's campaign.

According to the American Cancer Society:  Breast cancer occurs mainly in women, but men can get it, too. Many people do not realize that men have breast tissue and that they can develop breast cancer. Cells in nearly any part of the body can become cancer and can spread to other areas.

The Health Services Unit (HSU) encourages our focus to be on raising awareness of Breast Cancer in women and men. The HSU continues to promote early detection and screening for breast cancer among ALL members of the campus community. The Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society (TTCS) continues to facilitate breast cancer screenings by appointment only. Click here for a list of services that the TTCS continues to offer.
