During the last academic year, the Office of the University Chief Information Officer led a comprehensive evaluation of web conferencing tools to improve teaching and learning. This routine practice is aimed at assessing current education technologies to ensure that the changing needs of our University Community are always satisfied, particularly in the current remote academic environment prompted by the pandemic.
As a result of this effort, Zoom was selected as the new enterprise web conferencing tool for teaching and learning across The UWI system, replacing Blackboard Collaborate Ultra (BBC). Zoom was selected because it was compliant with user specifications and technical requirements, and it was also competitively priced. This selection was endorsed by the University ICT Steering Committee on August 25, 2021.
The full transition to zoom will be completed in time for start of the Summer Semester (Semester 3). Beyond this date, BBC will no longer be available in Moodle/eLearning Systems. During the transition, we strongly recommend that ALL STUDENTS execute the following important activities to avoid being adversely affected:
The Centre for Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CETL), along with the Campus Information Technology Services (CITS), are committed to making this transition a success.
