We look forward to welcoming you back to Campus in September

Posted Thursday, June 9, 2022

Dear Students,

We have been through a lot together since March 2020 and, I wish to thank you for your commitment and continued effort in your studies under these trying circumstances.

When we resumed on January 3, 2022, our campus operations looked quite similar to our last semester with the institution continuing to operate in a largely virtual mode.  However, globally, as the COVID-19 transitions from pandemic to endemic, we have seen a relaxation of national protocols. Primary and secondary school students are back to school, and tertiary institutions will return to face-to-face teaching in September, 2022,

While we look forward to welcoming you back to the Campus, I understand that some persons may experience feelings of anxiety. Allow me to share a bit about what Semester 1, 2022/2023 will look like for us at the St. Augustine Campus:

Preparing for the return to Campus in September

All members of staff returned to full-time face-to-face operations on June 6th to ensure that our students and other stakeholders can receive high-quality, in-person service.

From June to August, we will continue to prepare the Campus spaces to receive you.

Concessionaires have been invited to resume operations so that the Campus community will be well catered to.

Academic delivery and administrative matters

Most of our instruction will return to a face-to-face environment.  Faculties will conduct an assessment and make recommendations for courses which can continue to be delivered online.

Registration will continue online at http://sta.uwi.edu.  All students will be required to enrol in FEE PAY in order to access financial clearance, you can continue paying your fees at any Branch of Republic Bank Ltd. or via Internet Banking. Students are encouraged to use electronic payment options.

Joyce Gibbons-Innis Hall, Canada Hall, and SAL Hall will be available to students in the new academic year, but only for students who are fully vaccinated. Hall staff are also fully vaccinated.

COVID-19 Health and Safety Protocols

The health, wellness, and safety of all students and staff remain the priority and we reiterate our commitment to keeping our Campus community informed of important changes, based on the latest public health guidelines applicable to Trinidad and Tobago.

Sanitization stations will remain present throughout campus for frequent hand-washing. Further, classroom and laboratory spaces will be sanitized frequently to minimize the possibility of infection.

Under the Public Health Ordinance we are still required to wear face masks. Surgical and KN95 masks are highly recommended as they provide significantly more protection than cloth masks.

COVID-19 vaccines are available at the Health Services Unit for any student interested in getting vaccinated or boosted. Vaccination is a free, safe and effective way to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus to maintain your own health and to help protect others in the community.

As a reminder, individuals who are experiencing any signs or symptoms of illness are asked to stay home to prevent the spread of the virus.

If a student appears to be exhibiting symptoms associated with COVID-19 while on Campus, the attendant process will take place through notification to the Incident Management Team and working with Operational Health and Safety and Environment Unit and the Health Services Unit.

Looking Forward

While I trust that we all will take proper precautions to safeguard ourselves from the virus, I want to remind you to stay vigilant and exercise personal responsibility in ensuring the health and safety of our campus community.

I believe in the strength and resilience of our community and am confident of a very bright future for The UWI in its efforts to prepare a sound foundation for you to build successful careers. I look forward to a safe and healthy return to campus in September.

Further, more detailed information on our operations will be provided before the opening for the 22/23 academic year.
