UWI Press announces new Advisory Board and Editorial Committee

Following a Strategic Retreat held in January 2022 to review the governance arrangements of The University of the West Indies Press (UWI Press), its Chair, Professor Densil A. Williams, after consultation with Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, is pleased to announce the complement of directors who will serve the UWI Press Advisory Board for the period 2021-2024. The new Directors are:

The composition of the UWI Press Advisory Board of Directors is in accordance with the provisions of Statute 33 for Institutes, Centre, and other units of Learning and Research and UWI Finance & General Purposes Committee (UF&GPC). Each member, except for ex-officio members, shall serve an initial term of three years, subject to renewal for an additional two years. The UWI Press Advisory Board of Directors shall report annually to the UF&GPC through the Vice-Chancellor.

The terms of reference for the Advisory Board of Directors include:

·         making policy decisions for the UWI Press;

·         monitoring the strategic and operational activities of the UWI Press;

·         advising the UWI Press management on issues of law and policy, in line with The UWI’s strategic plan, as well as the specific business unit plan for the Press;

·         and providing broad insights and collaborative alignments through members’ regional and international networks.

 

Establishment of the Editorial Committee

Subsequent to the January 2022 Strategic Retreat, the UWI Press Advisory Board Directors approved the re-establishment of its Editorial Committee. Among the Editorial Committee’s responsibilities are to: 

·         hear and confirm (or disapprove) manuscript proposals;

·         advise on local and external reviewers where necessary;

·         hear and confirm (or disapprove) recommendations to publish from the Decision to Publish meetings (DTP);

·         hear and confirm (or disapprove) journals to be admitted to the UWI Press Journals of the Caribbean programme and;

·         hear and confirm (or disapprove) Series proposals.
