The Faculty of Food and Agriculture is officially launching the FFA Market Place on Wednesday, March 29, at the Dudley Huggins Building. The FFA Market Place will be a revenue-generating project that supports the marketing of various produce from the Faculty. This initiative supports the UWI triple A strategy of access, alignment, and agility. The market will improve access to the products and outputs of the faculty by providing a convenient location where the UWI community can purchase agricultural produce. This service will help to promote the activities of FFA and help to nurture students’ entrepreneurial skills. The FFA Market Place demonstrates the agility of the FFA’s willingness to innovate and find creative ways to provide easily accessed goods and services of the highest quality to the UWI community. The FFA intends to build on this initiative to expand and create a line of value-added and processed products that will be identified with the Faculty and help to grow The UWI brand.

The FFA Market Place will consist of products from the University Field Station, OGF, TDP and roof-top greenhouse.  A wide range of local products will be available for sale. These include UWI-milk, sustainably raised gourmet meats (i.e. quail), fish and eggs, fresh vegetables, UWI sweet corn, honey, as well as other artisan and specialty items.  The market and eatery will also sell plants including – seedlings, composts, seed kits and ornamental plants.  Customers will access safe, locally grown produce and other sustainably raised items in a personal and convenient setting.  This initiative also provides students and staff the opportunity to sell relevant products they develop in order to add uniqueness and to build community identity and involvement.  All products to be sold in the FFA Market Place will be selected by the FFA Market Place Committee to ensure that products offered maintain the standard of quality and integrity and ensure that they were created through sustainable practices.
