Peer Observation: Reflective Practice in Higher Education — An Interactive Interview

Join Faculty Development Specialist, Dr. Juliet Jones, this Tuesday April 16, at 1:30p.m. for a captivating interactive podcast during CETL’s Teaching & Learning Week at UWI St. Augustine. Delve into the world of peer observation and feedback with tertiary level educators as they share their unique experiences, perceptions, and valuable insights on engaging the process. Uncover the benefits, challenges, and transformative power of peer observation in higher education contexts.

Building Your ePortfolio: Evidence of Practice

A portfolio is now a critical aspect of an educational practitioner’s career that provides comprehensive evidence or documentation of conceptualizations, initiatives, impact/effectiveness and professional development. It is one way through which teaching is assessed and/or rewarded. In the 21st century Higher Education landscape, many universities around the world require prospective faculty members present an e-portfolio as supporting documentation in their application for employment. Other entities are also requiring the submission of an e-portfolio for various teaching awards.

This workshop will provide you with an orientation to e-portfolio development. Not only will this session explore the components/content of an e-portfolio, but it will also provide you with insight to the process and the various platforms that may be used for the creation of an e-portfolio site. By the end of this workshop, you will possess the knowledge and skills in e-portfolio development. This session is intended to assist teaching staff assess and document their teaching effectiveness and to prepare for the biennial UWI/Guardian Group Teaching Awards and/or other global teaching awards.

Action Research: Inquiry -Based Teaching (Face-to-Face)

This interactive, face-to-face workshop will equip you with the tools and knowledge to conduct Action Research in your own classroom. What you'll gain:

-        A solid understanding of Action Research: Learn how it differs from traditional research and its unique benefits for educators.

-        Exploration of various Action Research models: Discover different frameworks and choose the one that best suits your project.

-        Hands-on brainstorming and project development: Identify a teaching challenge you want to address and work through the initial steps of crafting your action research plan.

-        Collaborative learning: Bounce ideas off fellow faculty members and receive valuable feedback on your research proposal.

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to define action research and explain its purpose; identify relevant action research models for higher education; formulate a research quest; ion focused on your specific teaching context; develop a basic action research plan outlining your goals, methodology, and data collection strategies.
