Congratulations to Our UWI Sports Teams

This semester The UWI Sports teams participated in many competitions, which demonstrated their skills. Read on to see the results in the different categories. 

Netball Team:

Tournament: Court All Sectors Netball Tournament.

-          Opening Day Match Pass - 1st place

-          Divisional best Shooting Average - 1st place (65.67%)

Track and Field Team

-          Makayla Hope: 3rd place Discus

Johan Biput (track)

Johan took part in the World Para athletics Grand Prix Xalapa 2024, which was held in Mexico from April 5–7, 2024. There were 500 athletes from 25 countries who competed as part of the qualification process for the World Para Athletics Championships and the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The event aimed to promote inclusion through sport and show that disabilities are not an obstacle to success in the different modalities of para-athletics. Johan is the first male in Trinidad and Tobago in the T44 para class, with a national record time of 15.30. He placed 2nd in the 100-metre finals at his first ever international competition.  Additionally, he is now recognized as one of the top twenty athletes of the world in World Para Athletics, in the Men's 100m T44 .

Football

The UWI Men's Football Team were successful in playing against their opponent in the semi - final round, drawing 1 - 1, then winning on penalties 4 - 2. They played against the Sangre Grande Dream Team, on Friday April, 19.  They are now into the Sweet 16 League Knock - out Final, which will take place on Friday, April  26 at the Sangre Grande Recreational Grounds, Ojoe Road.  

Netball

On Saturday, April 20, The University of the West Indies played against the Malta Carib Senators. The netball game kicked off with an electrifying start as UWI secured an impressive lead of 13 points to Malta Carib Senators' 4 in the first quarter. 

First Quarter: UWI Dominates with 13/4 Ifo. UWI

Second Quarter: Competitive Play Results in 7/7 

Third Quarter: UWI Extends Lead with 9/4 Ifo. UWI

Fourth Quarter: UWI Secures Victory with 19/5 fo. UWI

Final Score: UWI 48 - 20 Ifo. UWI

MVP (Most Valuable Player): Ashaki Clarke

Women's Cricket 

T20 Trinidad and Tobago Women's Cricket Competition

Premiership Division 

UWI Women's Cricket Club defeated AC Women's Cricket Club by 74 runs. 

UWI WCC Score: 222-4

AC Women Cricket Score: 148 -6 

Outstanding performance Stacy Ann King scoring 148 runs not out in 112 balls.
