In 2023 L'Oréal established the L’Oréal Climate Emergency Fund. This EUR 15 million endowment fund supports vulnerable communities in developing greater resilience in the face of climate disasters. By partnering with expert organizations, the fund empowers communities in the most exposed areas to prepare for and recover from these devastating events.
The L'Oréal Climate Emergency Fund focuses on two key action areas:
- Prepare: Minimizing the impact of climate disasters through robust disaster planning and early warning systems
- Repair: Restoring essential infrastructure and vital services like healthcare, housing, and access to food and water in the aftermath of disasters

Aligned with the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which aims to equip all countries with early warning systems by 2027, the L'Oréal Climate Emergency Fund has launched a call for innovative proposals aimed at strengthening early warning systems for climate disasters. The objective is to develop technological solutions and innovative approaches to improve detection, prediction, and communication of risks related to extreme climate events, specifically:
- Floods
- Extreme storms
- Droughts
- Extreme temperatures
- Cyclones
- Wildfires
NB: Geophysical events such as earthquakes, tsunamis, or volcanic eruptions are out of the scope.
Areas of interest:
- Accurate prediction: Improving the accuracy of predicting the magnitude and exact timing of climate disasters
- Early detection: Enhancing the ability to detect these warning signs of climate disasters
- Communication and information dissemination: Establishing effective emergency communication systems to quickly inform and guide at risk populations
- Access to data: Improving the collection, sharing, and analysis of data necessary for disaster prediction and management
Eligibility criteria:
- Applicants must be non-profit organizations (eg. NGOs, associations, foundations…)
- Proposals must present either high-tech or low-tech/low-cost solutions to ensure and facilitate their accessibility, adoption, and maintenance by local communities
- Projects must demonstrate technical feasibility, practical application potential, and the ability to be deployed on a large scale
- Applicants must have existing links with local stakeholders to facilitate the deployment of solutions
- Projects must integrate mechanisms for community participation to ensure the involvement and ownership of the beneficiary populations in the solution
