The UWI Seismic Research Centre is hosting a PhD Oral Examination on Tuesday, October 15, at 3:00 p.m. Mr. Omari Graham will present on the topic, Communication for Volcanic Emergency Management at the U.W.I. Seismic Research Centre.
This seminar will take place in-person at The UWI Seismic Research Centre. However, if interested persons are unable to make it in person, they can send an email to sta-src@sta.uwi.edu, and the details will be sent.
About the Speaker
Tobago born and bred; Omari traces his interest in the earth sciences to a series of damaging earthquakes that affected the island in 1997. He has a BSc in Physics and Environmental Physics from UWI, St. Augustine and is currently pursuing a PhD in Volcanology focused on science and risk communication during volcanic emergencies in Small Island Developing States (SIDS). His research interests include volcanic risk, crisis communications and disaster risk management.
Omari works in the UWI Seismic Research Centre’s Education and Outreach team which leads the Centre’s public education and risk communication programmes for the English-speaking Eastern Caribbean islands it serves. He enjoys generating interest in science among young people and communicating earth science in new and exciting ways.
