Podclass – Balancing the Load: Safeguarding Mental Health in Academia

Posted Wednesday, October 30, 2024

On Wednesday, November 13, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m, Dr. Katija Khan, a Clinical Psychologist and expert in workplace mental health, will explore the often-overlooked mental health struggles within academia.

Faculty and university staff are the cornerstone of education, yet they face immense pressure from teaching, research, administrative duties, and personal responsibilities, which often results in burnout, anxiety, and depression.

Dr. Khan will shed light on the mental health crisis affecting educators and staff in higher education, examining how academic culture, workload, and stigma contribute to the decline in well-being. Drawing from her extensive experience, she will discuss the hidden stressors that faculty endure and share practical strategies for improving mental health and work-life balance in a demanding academic environment.

Interested persons are invited to attend the online session to learn how they can take steps to create healthier, more supportive workplaces and how individuals can safeguard their own well-being while navigating the challenges of academia.
