Team UWI Wins Grand Prize for 2024 AI Innovation Challenge at COP29

Congratulations to Dr. Letetia Addison, Project Officer and Lecturer, who has led her team from The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus to First Place in the 2024 AI Innovation Grand Challenge! Their groundbreaking project proposal, AI4SIDS: AI-Driven Climate Resilience Platform for Small Island Developing States, was selected from 114 proposals across 62 countries for its innovative approach to integrating AI into climate action.

This milestone highlights the power of collaboration, with team consisting of fellow UWI colleagues including Prof. Patrick Hosein, graduates of the Department of Computing and IT (Mr. Akil Hosang, Mr. Trevon Tewari, Ms. Tamia-Ashley Tuitt), and Dr. Kris Manohar. Dr. Addison will present the project proposal and receive the award at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, on 16 November 2024.
