Confused About AR Holds?

Let’s Clear Things Up Quickly

We know some of you have been heading different things about AR Holds—and with exams taking place, that’s added extra stress. Let’s take a moment to clarify what you need to know, based on your account status as of Friday 4 April 2025:

-       If you owed less than $5000 on April 4

An AR Hold was post-dated to take effect on May 10, after exams, and a letter was emailed to you with important information regarding the hold.

- You can still sit your exams

- But you won’t be able to access results, register for the next semester, obtain your certificate or transcripts until your fees are paid and/or registration documents submitted.

-       If you owed $5000 or more on April 4

An AR Hold was placed on your account and a letter was emailed to you with important information regarding the hold.

The Hold stays until the full outstanding balance is paid.

- If you paid in full via mySecureArea between April 4-6 and brought your balance to $0, the Hold was removed and you are cleared to write exams.

- If you paid in full via bank transfer or at any Republic Bank between April 4-6 and brought your balance to $0, the Hold removed on submission of proof of payment to the Bursary. You are then cleared to write exams.

- If you made a partial payment, the Hold will not become post-dated and you will not be able to write exams until your entire balance is cleared.

Clearing up a few common questions:

-    AR Holds are not removed with partial payments

-    Students who paid in full between April 4-6 may have received an AR Hold letter—but no Hold was applied if your balance became $0.

-    Post-dated Holds begin after exams (May 10), not before.
