As part of our ongoing efforts to keep our campus safe, orderly and accessible for everyone, The UWI continues to enforce its Traffic Rules and Regulations. While clamping is never our first choice and we understand it can be inconvenient, it is sometimes necessary to ensure that parking spaces remain available and campus pathways stay clear.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work together to maintain a safe and functional campus environment.
Why Clamping Happens
Vehicles may be clamped when parked in ways that pose safety risks, limit mobility or obstruct proper use of campus spaces. These include:
- Parking without a valid UWI Parking Permit
- Failing to display the permit
- Parking in a No Parking, reserved, or restricted area
- Unauthorized use of disabled bays
- Parking outside of designated bays or in grassy areas
- Parking that causes obstruction
- Unauthorized motorcycle or bicycle parking
- Disobeying traffic signs when the vehicle is not in motion
Estate Police only clamp vehicles when clear violations occur, following established procedures.
If You Are Clamped on Campus, Here Is What to Do
We understand that being clamped can disrupt your day. If this happens:
1. Call 800 SAFE (800 7233)
Staff and students can contact this number to request assistance.
2. An Estate Police Officer Will Come to You
Officers will proceed to your location to release the vehicle once the clamping fee is paid.
3. Pay the Clamping Fee of 100 dollars
The fee can be paid on site. You will receive an official receipt immediately.
4. Appeal If You Believe You Were Clamped in Error
You may request an appeal hearing before the Campus Registrar or an appointed committee.
- Appeals must be submitted in writing.
- Hearings are scheduled within 72 hours of receipt.
- If your appeal is successful and you had already paid the 100 dollar fee, the payment will be refunded.
Important Notes
- A notice will always be placed prominently on the vehicle indicating it has been clamped and explaining how to secure release.
- Clamping devices are university property. Any tampering or damage is a separate offence and may incur additional liability.
