In the interest of maintaining a safe, orderly and efficient campus environment, all motorists are reminded of the Traffic and Parking Regulations currently in effect.
Compliance with these regulations is essential to ensure the safety and convenience of all members of the University community.
General Guidelines for Motorists
- Traffic laws and regulations are in effect 24 hours a day, unless otherwise indicated.
- All authorized traffic and directional signs must be observed and obeyed at all times.
- Stop signs must be obeyed, and right-of-way yielded as required.
- Motorists must give right-of-way to pedestrians at all designated crosswalks.
- Changing lanes must only be done when it is safe to do so.
- U-turns are not permitted on the Main Campus except where officially designated (e.g., at a cul-de-sac).
- Parking on campus roadways is strictly prohibited under campus traffic regulations.
- Driving or parking on grassed areas, pedestrian paths, or sidewalks is not permitted.
- Unnecessary noise from horns, mufflers or any other devices is strictly prohibited.
- Playing loud music in vehicles is prohibited at all times.
Enforcement Notice
Effective Monday 10th November 2025, breaches of these regulations may result in the vehicle being clamped. A release fee of one hundred dollars ($100.00) will be applied.
Vehicle Clamping
Vehicles may be clamped under the following conditions:
- A notice will be prominently affixed to the vehicle’s window or windshield, indicating that it has been clamped and providing details for its release.
- The immobilizing device is the property of The University of the West Indies (UWI). Any damage to or tampering with the device, except by authorized personnel, constitutes a separate and additional offence.
Violations That May Result in Clamping
- Parking in “No Parking” or reserved areas.
- Unauthorized parking in a space designated for persons with disabilities.
- Parking outside the boundaries of a marked bay.
- Parking that causes interference or obstruction to traffic or pedestrians.
- Unauthorized parking of a motorcycle.
- Unauthorized parking on grassy areas.
- Parking outside of designated parking areas.
- Disobeying traffic signs or markings while the vehicle is stationary.
