Call for Abstracts: Caribbean Deaf Education Conference 2026

The School of Education, University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine invites educators, researchers, practitioners, advocates, policymakers and members of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community to submit abstracts for the Deaf Education Conference 2026, which will be held under the theme Pathways to Inclusive Education and Human Rights for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing: Empowering Change in the Caribbean and Beyond, taking place at UWI St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago, from July 23 to 25, 2026.

 

This conference will provide a regional and international platform to share innovative research, strategies and practices that strengthen inclusive educational environments and support the empowerment of individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. The programme will include:

-          - Paper presentations

-          - Poster presentations

-          - Workshops

-          - Expo/Fair

 

We welcome submissions from a wide range of disciplines and professional backgrounds. Abstracts should clearly demonstrate alignment with the conference theme and emphasise the significance of the work and its practical applications for education, practice and/or policy.

 

Abstract Guidelines

-          - Maximum length: 400 words

-          - Submission type: Individual researchers or research groups

-          - Presenter limit: Up to three (3) abstracts per presenter

 

Required Abstract Structure

Abstracts must include the following headings/components:

-          - Background: Description of the problem

-          - Purpose: Research objectives, research question(s) and/or hypotheses

-         - Design and Methods (where applicable): Research design, sampling strategy, participants, data collection procedures/instruments and data analysis approaches

-          - Findings (if available): Summary of specific results

-          - Conclusions and Implications: Main outcomes (if available) and implications for practice, policy and/or further research

-          Keywords: Up to five (5)
