Members of The University of the West Indies community are invited to submit chapter proposals for an upcoming edited volume, Embodied Borders: The Syndemic of Migration, Mental Health and Chronic Disease in African and Caribbean Diasporas.
This volume examines how mental health challenges and chronic diseases intersect within African and Caribbean migrant communities, shaped by structural “borders” such as racism, exclusionary policies, healthcare barriers and economic marginalisation. Grounded in a syndemic and embodied borders framework, the book moves beyond listing health outcomes to critically explore their social and structural roots.
We welcome interdisciplinary chapter proposals (theoretical, empirical, or applied) related to themes such as:
- Syndemic and embodiment frameworks
- Lived experiences of migration and health
- Structural and policy barriers
- Resistance, resilience and future directions
