You’re Not Alone. CAPS Can Help

Posted Wednesday, February 25, 2026

The Counselling and Psychological Services Department (CAPS) continues to provide free and confidential counselling services to all students. CAPS also hosts outreach initiatives and events throughout the year, but our primary focus at this time is ensuring students are aware of, and feel comfortable accessing, the support that’s available when they need it.

University life can come with real challenges, including:

-          - Time management

-          - Roommate concerns

-          - Financial struggles

-          - Academic pressure

-          - Homesickness

-          - Depression

-          - Eating disorders

-          - Sleep deprivation

Counselling can help students build skills and feel more supported through:

-          - Improved communication and interpersonal skills

-          - Greater self-acceptance and self-esteem

-          - Changing self-defeating habits and behaviours

-          - Better expression and management of emotions (including anger)

-          - Relief from depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions

-          - Increased confidence and decision-making skills

-          - Stronger stress management

-          - Improved problem-solving and conflict resolution

-          - Greater sense of self and purpose

-          - Recognizing and reframing distorted thinking
