Members of The UWI, St. Augustine Campus community and the general public are invited to explore a new title in The Caribbean Biography Series from The University of the West Indies Press — Calypso Rose by Gelien Matthews.
This compelling biography tells the remarkable story of Linda McCartha Monica Sandy-Lewis, the legendary Trinidadian Queen of Calypso, whose voice and achievements helped redefine Caribbean music. The book traces Calypso Rose’s extraordinary journey, highlighting her rise in a male-dominated arena, her resilience in the face of personal and professional challenges and her enduring impact as a cultural icon, activist and global ambassador of Caribbean identity.
Authored by Gelien Matthews, Head of the History Department at The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, this work forms part of a distinguished series that celebrates individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Caribbean culture and society.
