Writers from Indigenous communities across the Americas are invited to apply for the 2026 Indigenous Literatures of the Americas Award (PLIA).

The award recognises and encourages literary creation in Indigenous languages and is open to unpublished works in any literary genre originally written in the author's Indigenous language.

Eligible submissions must:

-         Be written in an Indigenous language

-         Reflect the aesthetic, semantic and cultural elements of the participant’s language and community

-         Contribute to the promotion, development and dissemination of Indigenous languages

-         Have a minimum length of 50 pages in the Indigenous language, accompanied by a translation into the official language of the author's country of origin

Submissions must include the original unpublished work, a translated version and a separate document containing the applicant’s personal information and brief biography.

The award carries a prize of MXN $300,000 and will be presented at the awards ceremony scheduled for December 4, 2026, during the Guadalajara International Book Fair in Jalisco, Mexico.

The call for submissions is open until June 21, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. (Mexico City time).

The winner will be announced on August 25, 2026.
