Follow Trinidad and Tobago’s First Deep-Sea-Led Expedition

The Department of Life Sciences invites the campus community and wider public to follow Deep Wonders of Trinidad and Tobago and the High Seas, the first scientific expedition led by local scientists to explore the country’s deep waters.

Led by Dr. Diva Amon of SpeSeas and The UWI, the expedition brings together local and international marine scientists aboard Schmidt Ocean Institute’s advanced research vessel, Falkor (too). From June 29 to July 28, 2026, the team will investigate fragile and potentially never-before-seen marine ecosystems, placing Trinidad and Tobago at the centre of global ocean exploration.

The expedition and its discoveries are being livestreamed on Schmidt Ocean Institute’s YouTube and Twitch channels, giving audiences in Trinidad and Tobago and around the world the opportunity to follow the journey in real time.
