The University of the West Indies Press is pleased to announce the forthcoming publication of Entangled Past: Apology and Reparations for Slavery in Grenada, co-authored by Nicole Phillip and Laura Trevelyan.

In 2023, Grenada's National Reparations Committee invited members of the Trevelyan family to Grenada to publicly apologise for the actions of their English enslaver ancestors. The historic ceremony attracted international attention, marking an unprecedented public apology and pledge to pay reparations by descendants of enslavers in the British Caribbean.

Entangled Past takes readers behind the scenes of this historic event, exploring the Trevelyan family's apology and decision to pay reparations through the perspectives of two women closely involved in the process.

Co-authored by Grenadian historian Nicole Phillip and British-American journalist Laura Trevelyan, the book combines a firsthand account of how Grenadians engaged with the Trevelyan family with a historical examination of Grenada and Britain's intertwined histories.

Through their distinct perspectives, the authors offer insight into the events surrounding the apology and the wider conversation on slavery, historical accountability and reparations.
