UWI FOR HAITI – A Solidarity Event

On Friday 29, January 2010, the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus invites you – all staff and students – to stop what you are doing for a while to spend together a few moments of solidarity with the People of Haiti. While many of us have been making material donations and we will continue to do so, some of us felt that it was necessary to mark the occasion more symbolically, and together express sympathy at their great loss. At the same time this is an opportunity to show our respect for their continued strength and resistance in the face of adversity.

A solidarity event – UWI FOR HAITI will therefore take place from noon-1 pm at the JFK Quadrangle in the vicinity of the JFK Auditorium. This will take the form of artistic performances, statements, and a collection of donations on behalf of the relief effort.

At 12:20 pm all members of staff and students attending this event or elsewhere on the campus are asked to stand to collectively observe a minute of silence in memory of the thousands who have lost their lives. We look forward however to seeing you all there at this important event.

Lecturers and departmental heads are asked to encourage their staff to attend.

This event is a joint activity of the staff and Guild of Students of The University of the West Indies. For further information, please contact Ms Juliana Foster at ext. 4316, or Mr Gerard Best of the Marketing and Communications Office, ext. 3726.
