COTE looks at the economy over 50 years

The Department of Economics at The University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine Campus, prepares once again to host its annual landmark event, the Conference on the Economy (COTE). COTE 2012 is carded for 11th-12th October, 2012, and will take place at the Learning Resource Centre, UWI, St. Augustine Campus.  

The conference will focus on Trinidad and Tobago’s economy over the past 50 years with the theme, 50 years of Managing for Development in an Ever Changing Economic Environment: Lessons learnt and the way forward.  

COTE 2012 will pay tribute to Professor Compton Bourne, former UWI St. Augustine Campus Principal and previous Head of the Department of Economics. The keynote speaker for the Conference will be Mr. Ewart Williams, recently retired Governor of the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago. Mr. Williams is expected to address economic issues facing Trinidad and Tobago and, by extension, the wider Caribbean region in light of the present global environment. Other speakers at the conference will be drawn from the Departments of Economics and related Centres and Units from across the Campuses of The UWI, as well as representatives of other regional and international universities, ministries and key agencies. Among the topics that will be discussed are the “Macroeconomic Environment”, “Resource and Environmental Issues (Disaster Preparedness)” and the “Petroleum and the Downstream Sector”. 

Another key feature of COTE2012 will be the evening panel discussions. These discussions will be free and open to the public and will focus on the topics “Transformation for Development” and “Education and Workforce Development”.
