ST. AUGUSTINE, Trinidad and Tobago – An appreciative crowd of University of the West Indies (UWI) Alumni and friends of The UWI filled a transformed UWI Sports and Physical Education Centre (SPEC) at St Augustine on Sunday 17 February, 2013 for the first Caribbean Pepperpot event. This inaugural Caribbean Pepperpot event known as “Breakfast and Fashion Show with the UWI Alumni” showcased some of this country’s established fashion designers and their upcoming colleagues displaying their 2013 collections.
The Caribbean Pepperpot Committee has a vision “to ensure long-term socio-economic survival and prosperity of Caribbeanness” Their mission is “to develop, create and nurture highly-skilled, globally-competitive Caribbean entrepreneurs together with cultural products and services using ICT-derived educational tools, innovation and indigenous rhythms.” Strategic objectives have been identified “to lay foundations throughout the Caribbean and its Diaspora for sustainable delivery of Competitiveness, Computer Literacy, Creativity and Innovation, English Literacy Entrepreneurial Development and Music Literacy.” Plans are in place for additional Caribbean Pepperpot events to be held throughout the year. Next on the agenda is the International Wine and Cheese Festival at the Trinidad Hilton on 13 April, 2013.
Caribbean Pepperpot is the brand name under which a partnership has been forged between the University of the West Indies Alumni Association T&T Chapter (UWIAATT), which celebrates its 25th Anniversary this year and one of UWI’s Distinguished Alumni Simeon Sandiford, owner and founder of the local music recording innovators Sanch Electronix.
