Welcome Home – the Canada Hall Experience

For Release Upon Receipt - August 2, 2013

St. Augustine

ST. AUGUSTINE, Trinidad & Tobago –  When the campus is at your doorstep, the only thing you need to do is step outside.

Of the five halls of residence at The University of the West Indies St. Augustine Campus, Canada Hall is the only all-male Hall of Residence. Built in 1963 thanks to funding from the Canadian Government, Canada Hall is situated at the south-eastern end of the main campus, in close proximity to the Sir Frank Worrell playing field and the Student Activity Centre. With a newly refurbished South Block, Canada Hall is currently accepting students for the academic year 2013/2014.

This refurbished Canada Hall Block practises energy conservation as its kitchens utilise energy-efficient appliances, while the Hall’s hot water is supplied via solar water heaters. Students will enjoy a modernised residence with zero commute and a convenient and student-centred environment to complement their university education. A host of recreational activities is available, including debating, field trips, sporting activities and competitions, so students are afforded a holistic and enjoyable experience.

Each refurbished bedroom includes a single bed with built-in drawers, a wardrobe and a bookcase, all made of local hardwood, and a solid-surface desk equipped with an overhead lamp.  A ceiling mounted variable speed fan was also installed in each bedroom.

The kitchens can facilitate six persons at a time and are custom-built with deep double bowl stainless steel sinks. Both the bathrooms and kitchens have solid surface countertops for easy cleaning.

Students interested in becoming a member of the Canada Hall family are asked to contact Jacqueline Bridge, PhD, Resident Manager, Canada & Trinity Halls of Residence, at 662-2002 ext 83166, or Jacqueline.Bridge@sta.uwi.edu.
