President Anthony Carmona to deliver feature address at UWI Welcome and Matriculation Ceremony 2013

ST. AUGUSTINE, Trinidad & Tobago – The top ten performers of the 2013 Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) will be recognised by The University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine today, as part of the Campus’ annual Matriculation and Welcome Ceremony. His Excellency Anthony Carmona ORTT, SC, President of Trinidad and Tobago and Distinguished UWI alum will deliver the feature address at the Matriculation Ceremony, which begins at 4.30pm at the JFK Quadrangle, UWI St. Augustine. 

Professor Alan Cobley, UWI Vice-Chancellor for Undergraduate Studies and Professor Clement Sankat, UWI Pro Vice-Chancellor and St. Augustine Campus Principal, will also speak at the ceremony, which will serve the traditional purpose of welcoming new students as members of the academic community. Professors Cobley and Sankat are expected to formally recognise the incoming students as new members of academia. 

Ms. Karishma Harrilal-Maharaj, a registered first-year student from the Faculty of Medical Sciences, will sign the symbolic register on behalf of the students, and students will be invited to sign the Matriculation Book and to take the Academic Vow, led by Mr. Alexander Johnson, UWI Student Guild President. Eng. Jerry Medford, Treasurer of the UWI Alumni Association will also invite new students to join the association post-graduation. 

The ceremony also includes a formal procession of the University Council as well as members of Campus Management, Faculty Deans and other members of academic and administrative staff. 

The ceremony will be chaired by St. Augustine Campus Registrar, Mr. Richard Saunders.
