“4G Technologies and Network Design Boot Camp” at UWI

For Release Upon Receipt - November 26, 2013

St. Augustine

ST. AUGUSTINE, Trinidad and Tobago – CelPlan Technologies, Inc. (CelPlan) and The University of the West Indies (UWI) St. Augustine Campus have signed an Academic Program Courseware License Agreement by which CelPlan will provide training materials on radio communications and Radio-Frequency (RF)-based systems, standards and technologies to The UWI.

According to Dr. Kim I. Mallalieu, Leader of the Communication Systems Group, DECE: “This is a tremendous opportunity for our students to design and analyse new and emerging wireless communication networks using industry-grade software; and at the same time, to explore market modelling, realistic business cases and a variety of design tasks that are not typically covered in theoretical courses.”

To accelerate this integration, CelPlan will conduct a “4G Technologies and Network Design Boot Camp” from December 2nd to 6th, 2013, at The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus.  This 5-day course will provide CXOs, managers, engineers, and technical staff with the practical knowledge and expertise needed to deploy and optimize realistic 4G networks. Students will not only be presented to the technology itself, but also to the added complexity of designing a data-centric network.

Additionally, CelPlan has already provided UWI license-free use of CelPlannerTM, their flag-ship, industry-grade software for planning, designing and optimization of wireless telecommunication systems, including 4G systems. The training materials, together with software, will be integrated into a number of academic courses and student projects offered by the Communication Systems Group in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DECE).  These, in turn, will provide students in-demand, industry-ready, hands-on skills and experience in the rapidly advancing field of wireless communications engineering.

Leonhard Korowajczuk, CEO/CTO of CelPlan, and author of several texts including “LTE, WiMAX and WLAN Network Design, Optimization and Performance Analysis,” (Wiley 2011) will be the instructor for this Boot Camp.  Some of the topics that will be covered are: Wireless Communications Fundamentals, 4G Technologies (WLAN, WiMAX, LTE) In-depth Analysis, and Design and Optimization of 4G Networks.  Participants can challenge the CelPlan 4G Technologies and Network Design Certification Exam at the end of the training.

All industry personnel, academia and interested persons in Trinidad and Tobago and the wider region are welcomed to register for the course.
