For Release Upon Receipt - December 13, 2013

St. Augustine

ST. AUGUSTINE, Trinidad and Tobago – The Visual Arts Unit of the Department of Creative and Festival Arts (DCFA) hosts its curated exhibition, “Interpretations of the Human Figure”, at the Art Society of Trinidad and Tobago, Cor. Jamaica and St. Vincent Avenues, Federation Park, on December 17 from 6.30pm.

In 2012, the Visual Arts Unit hosted a grand exhibition of work by alumni, current students and past and present faculty, to commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Department and the Unit. Coming out of this, the curatorial committee of that exhibition committed to hosting regular themed exhibitions as a platform to show the wide range of work produced by students, alumni and faculty.

Lesley-Ann Noel, Visual Arts Coordinator at the DCFA said, “Throughout the last year we did much work based around the human figure including figure drawing workshops, and costume design and experimental performance workshops and agreed that our first themed exhibition would be a show celebrating the human figure. We launched a call for work inspired by the human figure in August 2013, and our alumni, current students and faculty have responded to our call in a variety of expressions including drawings in various media, digital illustrations and installations, paintings and photography. We took the decision to show this body of work at the Art Society of Trinidad and Tobago in support of its 70th anniversary and in an effort to move our work outside the walls of The UWI.”

She added, “The Visual Arts Unit of the DCFA has a long history with the Art Society, and this venue was the obvious choice for this exhibition as we seek to continue to build our relationship together.  We look forward to much collaboration with the Art Society in the future.”

The exhibition will consist of drawings, paintings, design, sculpture and other works inspired by the human figure, created by past and present faculty and students of the Certificate, Degree and Masters programmes of the Visual Arts Unit of the Department of Creative and Festival Arts (DCFA). All are invited.
