ST. AUGUSTINE, Trinidad and Tobago – The third national UWI T20 Cricket Tournament is back from January 3rd to 11th, 2015 with a cash pot of TT$30,000 at stake for the winning team. The tournament was formally launched today, Monday December, 15 at a ceremony at the Office of the Campus Principal, UWI St. Augustine.
The sanctioned knockout tournament will again showcase twelve teams, playing through a preliminary round, quarterfinal round and semi-final round with undefeated teams progressing to the final. The tournament will also feature top clubs in Trinidad as well as Tobago, along with teams from The UWI and UTT.
The defending champion, Merry Boys Sports Club from Diego Martin, Trinidad will be the top seeded team for the 2015 competition. There will be cash prizes for all teams progressing beyond the preliminary round, and prizes for man-of-the-match, “big sixes” and special bowling performances.
The tournament, which has the full support of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board, will feature four triple headers.
The launch also featured remarks from Campus Principal and Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Clement Sankat and a competition overview by President of the UWI Cricket Club, Dr. Trevor Alleyne.
Professor Baldwin Mootoo served as the launch Chairperson.
All matches will be played at the Sir Frank Worrell Cricket Ground of the UWI Sport and Physical Education Centre (SPEC).
At the launch, the draw for the Preliminary Round was done by Major David Benjamin, the Director of the UWI Sport and Physical Education Centre, and the knockout match schedule is as follows:
