St. Augustine
For more than 55 years, The UWI St. Augustine Campus has undertaken and produced exemplary research in a wide range of disciplines. Through the campus’ research, innovation and knowledge transfer, The UWI has made significant contributions to national and regional development and The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago (NGC) has been a longstanding supporter of the research emanating from the institution. On Wednesday 8th June, 2016, the Campus will host its 3rd biennial UWI-NGC Research Awards ceremony, paying tribute to The UWI’s outstanding researchers, both staff and students, who have excelled in their research endeavours, particularly those whose research efforts have benefitted the people of Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean region.
The UWI-NGC Research Awards initiative is organised under the auspices of the Office of the Campus Principal with the generous support of The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited. In 2013, NGC affirmed its commitment to supporting the activities of the University through sponsorship of three main initiatives: the Research Awards Ceremony, the Research Forum and a Professorial Chair in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This commitment was formalized in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), for a period of 5 years backed by a TT$7.15 million commitment to undertaking these initiatives, disbursed in annual increments. NGC recently presented The UWI St. Augustine with the cheque to concretize its commitment for the 2016 activities, in the sum of $TT1.5 million.
This year’s Research Awards Ceremony will feature awards in four main categories, as follows:
Campus Awards: Most Productive Research Unit, Centre or Institute, Most Impacting Research Project, Most Outstanding Regional Research Project and Most Outstanding International Research Project
