UWI Sports Centre insists that Girls Kick Too!

The University of the West Indies (UWI), Sport and Physical Education (SPEC) will host a football camp for girls, ages 7-15 years called ‘Girls Kick Too!!’ from Monday 21st to Friday 25th July, 2008 at the UWI SPEC grounds, St. Augustine from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The camp, which is organised by the Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Football Association, includes coaches from England, USA and Trinidad and Tobago. National senior women players and Under-20 players will all be on hand for the one-week football camp, as well as Ms. Faye White, Captain of the English Women’s Senior Team, Ms. Laura Harvey, coach of the England Women’s Under-17 team, Mr. Malcolm Browne, coach of the US Classic Soccer Club.

Dr. Iva Gloudon, UWI Director of Sport and Physical Education, highlighted the long-term objective of the camp: “The UWI SPEC is a developmental Centre and Women’s Football is one of the developmental areas that we are working with. One of the objectives of this initiative is to place these girls in an environment where they will develop the skills and attitude to enable them to eventually compete in Women’s Football at the highest level.”

Registration for the camp is only $200 which includes a T-Shirt, water bottle and lunch.
