Statement Regarding Kidnapping on The UWI St. Augustine Campus

Earlier this afternoon, there was an incident on The UWI St. Augustine Campus involving the kidnapping of one of our staff members in the vicinity of the UWI Bookshop. Director of Campus Security Services, Mr. Noel Corbett has confirmed that Campus Security is actively supporting the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service in their investigation of the incident, hoping for a safe release and return to the family.

Campus Principal, Professor Brian Copeland expressed his deep concern on behalf of the Campus Community. “My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time and we continue to lend our support to them. When incidents of crime happen on campus, concern for the victim is of paramount importance to us. The UWI senior administration team activates our systems to ensure that all necessary support is made available by the Campus to the persons affected. At the core of our efforts continues to be collaboration with members of our campus community, Campus Security and the TTPS” he said.
