UWI SPEC hosts Regional Cricket Tournament

In another move to support regional unity, The University of the West Indies (UWI) will host the Trinidad and Tobago vs. Combined Campuses and College Cricket Tournament. This four day event will be held on the UWI Sport and Physical Education Centre (SPEC), Sir Frank Worrell Cricket Field from Friday 6th to Monday 9th January, 2009.

This game is the second regional game of First Class Status to be played at this venue, the first being held in 2005 when Trinidad and Tobago triumphed over Jamaica. Since then the UWI SPEC Facility has hosted numerous warm up games for several auspicious cricket events, including the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup, where teams from South Africa, India, Pakistan utilised the Grounds.

This tournament features prominent cricketers such as Darren Ganga, Adrian Barath and Lendl Simmons. At this match the umpires are Mr. Terrence Birbal of Trinidad, Dhierandranath Balgobin of Guyana and Mr. Joel Wilson of Trinidad (standby). Additionally, Mr. Clarence Shaggrali and Boya Sahadeo will serve as Match Referee and Match Adjudicator respectively. This tournament can be viewed at no cost, and members of the public are invited to attend.
