Sagicor Financial’s Dodridge Miller to serve as Professor of Practice at The UWI

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is pleased to announce the recent appointment of Mr Dodridge Miller, President and CEO, Sagicor Financial as a practicing subject matter expert to be awarded the Professor of Practice title at the regional university. Granted on the basis of professional competence, distinguished practice and service contributions, his position has been approved by the University Appointments Committee. Mr Miller’s appointment as Professor of Practice attached to the Vice-Chancellery, The UWI Regional Headquarters is effective July 1, 2019.

Mr Miller is considered one of the leading finance minds in the Caribbean. He master-minded the rise of Sagicor Financial conglomerate from the Barbados Mutual Life Assurance Society during the last fifteen years, to the region’s largest global financial conglomerate.  His demonstrated brilliance as a finance expert has won him many accolades and awards, including an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from The UWI, his alma mater for his contribution to the development of financial services in the Caribbean, in October 2008.  

Mr Miller has more than 30 years’ experience in the banking, insurance and financial services industries. He was appointed Group President and Chief Executive Officer of Sagicor Financial Corporation Limited in July 2002. He has also been a Director since December 2002. Prior to his appointment as Group President and Chief Executive Officer, he held the positions of Treasurer and Vice President - Finance and Investments, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer. He is a Director of Sagicor Life Inc, Sagicor USA, Sagicor Group Jamaica Limited, Sagicor Life Jamaica, Sagicor Investments Jamaica Limited and a number of other subsidiaries within the Group.

Mr Miller holds an LLM, Corporate and Commercial Law, from The UWI Cave Hill Campus, an MBA, International Finance from the University of Wales and Manchester Business School in the UK and is a Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

About the Professors of Practice 

First approved at The UWI in 2018, the title Professor of Practice is an honorary professorship position awarded to practicing or retired subject matter experts based on a combination of professional competence, distinguished practice and notable teaching or service contributions. The non-tenured positions allow for the integration of experts with industry experience into The UWI system. Appointees may use the title ‘Professor of Practice’ for as long as they remain in active association with The UWI.
