UWI shows ‘Love for Bahamas’ Relief drive underway at St. Augustine Campus

Following the catastrophic damage caused by Hurricane Dorian to The Bahamas, The UWI St. Augustine has launched theLove For Bahamas’ relief campaign. Staff and students across campus have been working together to coordinate a number of fundraising activities and the public is invited to join the campus in making a difference.

In a note to the campus community, Deputy Principal Professor Indar Ramnarine encouraged the community not only to give, but to extend wider support to the Bahamian community. “Here at The UWI St. Augustine Campus are students and staff members from The Bahamas. Many of them may be on hall with you, or in your classes. I urge you to reach out to them as inevitably they will be worried about the well-being of their families and friends. Your kindness and presence will speak volumes,” he said.

The following options have been set up under the Love For Bahamas’ relief campaign:

a.       Online Donations: Persons can make donations online via credit card. Visit the campus’ website at https://sta.uwi.edu and click the ‘Love for Bahamas’ logo for the link to donate.  

b.       Direct Deposits: Persons can deposit funds directly to our UWI (Disaster) Relief Republic Bank Account #160-135-528-301. Alternatively, deposits can be made at the Cashier at the Bursary in the Main Administrative Building and Lloyd Brathwaite Student Administration Building.

c.        Collection of Relief Items: The Guild of Students and Institute for Gender and Development Studies (IGDS) are having relief drives for items to send to The Bahamas. Visit their respective social media pages for updates on how you can donate: 

 

In addition to relief efforts, representatives of Campus Management team, met with Bahamian students and staff to offer support. Professional counselling has also been offered.
