Spotlight on The Value of Performing Arts at UWI Got Talent 2022

ST. AUGUSTINE, Trinidad and Tobago. Wednesday August 10, 2022- The University of the West Indies (The UWI) St. Augustine Campus is not only known for its excellence in academia but also boasts a multi-talented student body. The 2022 edition of the Campus’ “UWI Got Talent” competition kicks off on Thursday August 11th, 2022 and aims to raise awareness of the importance and value of performing arts towards society.

The Division of Student Services and Development (DSSD), The UWI St. Augustine Campus hosts this programme to provide and an empowering and professional platform for students to share their performing talents with the rest of the world. It provides talent training, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for advancement into local, regional, and international entertainment/creative industries.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the competition was on hiatus over the past two years. The official 2022 launch of the competition will allow persons to meet past champions including Emmanuel Joseph, talented pannist and student of The Faculty of Humanities and Education, The UWI St. Augustine Campus. Joseph took home the $15000 prize at the inaugural UWI Got Talent competition in 2019. Following his success, he was also the 2021 recipient of the Jit Samaroo bursary, which is awarded to support members of BP Renegades steelband with their academic expenses.
