St. Augustine

ST. AUGUSTINE, Trinidad and Tobago. Tuesday August 30, 2022 After two years of being hosted virtually, students will be able to meet their peers and teaching staff in-person at UWI Life Student Orientation 2022. This year’s event themed, “Discover Your Power” takes place on Friday 2nd September 2022 at 9:30am at JFK Auditorium at The University of the West Indies (The UWI) St. Augustine Campus.

"The team at the Division of Student Services and Development (DSSD) is excited for the return of the in-person staging of the UWI Life events. Over the years UWI Life has become our flagship FYE programme that plays a crucial role in breaking the ice for our new students,” said Dr. Deirdre Charles, Director, DSSD, The UWI St. Augustine Campus. “It has been integral in familiarizing our students with the campus and helping them to forge and solidify friendships and acquaintances that will become support systems for them during their time with us,” added Dr. Charles.

UWI Life was conceptually designed in 1999 as an innovative way to introduce new students to the ins and outs of campus life and customarily features student and support network events. It is a forum where new students meet Campus Management, Faculty Deans and support staff, in an environment that promotes well-rounded student experience and integration into the Campus community. The event is open to new and current students who have not been on campus because of the pandemic and virtual teaching.

“We consider it an important event and urge all our new students to attend. We are so very happy to be hosting UWI Life in-person again and can't wait to meet our students there!" said Dr. Charles. Specially invited guests from The UWI St. Augustine Campus include Professor Rose-Marie Belle Antoine, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Campus Principal, Mr. Kobe Sandy, President, The UWI St. Augustine Guild of Students as well as Dr. Dianne Douglas, Clinical Psychologist specializing in Clinical and Community Psychology and the founder and Director of Douglas and Associates Limited.

The student community at The UWI comprise of students from across the Caribbean region.  Students are encouraged to bring their flags, represent their home country and show their pelican pride. Visit the following website to register: https://bit.ly/UWILifeRegisterNow
