Mr Yehudi John, Valedictorian, The UWI Open Campus Class of 2022

The UWI Open Campus. Wednesday, October 12, 2022—Graduation Season at The University of the West Indies continues this Saturday, October 15, with a virtual ceremony at its Open Campus.  The UWI Open Campus is pleased to announce its Class of 2022 Valedictorian, Mr Yehudi John, a Senior Sports Development Officer in the Ministry of Sports, Culture & Community Development in Dominica. He has excelled in the Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Management Studies and completed the programme with First Class Honours. As is customary, Yehudi will deliver the Valedictory Speech at the October 15 Ceremony on behalf of his fellow graduates across the Region.  His speech will be centred on the theme, ‘gratitude’.

In his capacity as Sports Development Officer, Yehudi supervises staff at the Sports Division for the execution of Physical Education & Sports in primary schools as well as supporting sporting activities at schools and at the community level. He previously served as a Physics and Mathematics teacher at the upper secondary (high) level.

As a sports enthusiast, Yehudi believes that when one finds employment in a field one enjoys, they never have to ‘work’ a day in their life, hence his chosen career path. His dedication to community service is also evident in his dedication to sports throughout the Dominica. He has served as President and Vice President of the Dominica Amateur Basketball Association (DABA), but his service in the field extends to track & field, table tennis, cricket, volleyball, football and cycling.

A father of three, and husband, Yehudi finds time to balance work, community, and family life. He believes that the best method of parenting is being an example and role model. Academic excellence has always been one of his guiding principles and he demands the same from his children and those under his tutelage.

Having successfully completed his bachelor’s degree, Yehudi’s next academic goals include pursuing a Master in Sports Management which will assist in the effective execution of his duties and responsibilities on the job, and a Master in Disaster Risk Management which will aid him in service to his country.

The UWI Open Campus is proud that Yehudi made it his choice to pursue his undergraduate education, congratulates him on this significant academic achievement and wishes him success in his future academic pursuits.

The Open Campus Graduation Ceremony on October 15 is the only virtual celebration for the Class of 2022 Presentation of Graduates at The UWI.  It is one of 15 UWI graduation ceremonies being held across The Regional University’s five campuses this season. Well-wishers across the world are invited to join the celebration via www.uwitv.global, UWItv’s channels on Flow EVO or the Facebook live stream.
