The University of the West Indies (UWI) St Augustine Campus Principal, Professor Clement K. Sankat recently hosted 70 secondary principals in the first-ever Secondary School Principals Appreciation Day, held on Tuesday 10th February, 2009 at the John F Kennedy (JFK) Auditorium. The main objective of the Appreciation Day was to provide a forum for the secondary school principals to interact with the administrative and academic staff of the University.

70 principals from five-year and seven-year secondary schools across Trinidad and Tobago came together at the UWI St Augustine campus. The principals took part in a tour of the St Augustine Campus, which included visits to the UWI Sport and Physical Education Centre (SPEC), the new Student Administration Building, the Main Library, the new Milner Hall of Residence and the newly constructed teaching and learning facility, Daaga Hall. A group of participants also visited the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope.

After a group luncheon punctuated by entertainment by Paul Keens-Douglas, the Principals had an opportunity to hear about the latest developments and programmes at the St Augustine Campus. The post-luncheon session included a Question and Answer session and more live entertainment, this time by 2009 Young Kings winner, Jervae Caesar.

The University intends to host the Appreciation Day once every two years.
