The UWI St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad and Tobago. Wednesday, April, 19 2023-Trinidad and Tobago nationals are among the Honourees and scholarships winners at the 26th Annual Awards Gala of the American Foundation of The University of the West Indies (AFUWI) in New York City on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 6.30 p.m. All the awardees have contributed to The UWI and the region in various capacities. Dr Hazel Carter – Associate Professor of Educational Leadership, The City College of New York will receive The Pelican Award while Dr Farley Cleghorn – Global Head, Health Practice for The Palladium Group will receive the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Global Health Research and Delivery. They join other notable recipients, including Dr The Honourable Mark Brantley, Premier of Nevis | Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in International Government and Leadership; Mr Robert ‘Don Pooh’ Cummins, CEO & Entrepreneur | Trailblazer Award for Excellence in Entrepreneurship and Community Engagement; Mrs Beverly Hunter, Senior Administrative Officer, The UWI | Pathfinder Award forDedicated Service in the Advancement of Higher Education and Ms Sandra L. Richards, Head of Global Sports & Entertainment and Segment Sales & Engagement. Morgan Stanley Wealth Management | Caribbean Luminary Award A student of the St. Augustine Campus of The UWI, Mr. Christopher Williams, will represent the five students from across the region who received tuition scholarships in the 2022/2023 academic year. At the core of the AFUWI mission is transformational leadership, advocacy and facilitation of higher education as a pathway to progress. AFUWI provides an average of 50 scholarships to exceptional students each year. In the last decade, some 600 tuition scholarships to students across the Caribbean region, donated US$7.5 million in goods, and brokered multiple relationships with other tier one institutions. AFUWI Board Chairman Dr. Cyrus Mc Calla notes that “in the past two years and due to the global pandemic, the demands from deserving students for support have doubled.
