The UWI St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad and Tobago. Friday May 26, 2023 The University of the West Indies (The UWI) St Augustine Academy of Sport (SAAS) Under-23 basketball tournament “Momentum The Invitational” is a platform for talented young basketballers to showcase their skills, compete at a high level, and gain valuable experience in a competitive environment. The youth tournament started on Friday 19th May 2023 and will run until June 17, unfolding at the UWI Sport and Physical Education (UWI SPEC) at the St. Augustine Campus.

“The goal of the tournament is a reflection of the objectives of the SAAS to create a dynamic and supportive environment where promising young athletes can accelerate their development, gain exposure, and establish a solid foundation for their future sporting careers. This is a much-needed tournament in the post-COVID period,” said Dr. Anand Rampersad, Head AND Lecturer, SAAS.

Named “Momentum,” this tournament emphasizes the significance of seizing opportunities and building on success. Momentum represents the driving force, the energy that propels players forward in their basketball journeys.

“The competition is offering young men from different communities in Trinidad and Tobago to assemble in a competitive environment. It is also an opportunity for communities to travel with their teams to lend their unyielding support. Through sport, community identity is reinforced.
