Japan Honors T&T Professor for Promoting Academic Exchange and Cultural Understanding

St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago - June 22, 2023 - The University of the West Indies takes great pride in announcing the recognition bestowed upon Professor Beverly-Anne Carter, former director at the Centre for Language Learning, Faculty of Humanities and Education. The Government of Japan has honoured Professor Carter for her remarkable contributions to advancing academic exchange and fostering mutual understanding between Japan and Trinidad and Tobago. 

Professor Carter was awarded the prestigious Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, by the Japanese Government. This distinguished accolade is one of Japan's highest honours, exclusively conferred upon individuals who have demonstrated exceptional achievements in fostering international relations. It serves as a testament to Professor Carter's outstanding endeavours in promoting cultural diplomacy between the two nations and is well-timed as this honour aligns perfectly with The University of the West Indies' commemoration of its 75th Anniversary, further underscoring the profound significance of Professor Carter’s professional journey. 

The University of the West Indies extends warm congratulations to Professor Carter on this well-deserved honour, which reflects her unwavering dedication, profound expertise, and unwavering commitment to nurturing cultural exchange and academic collaboration between Trinidad and Tobago and Japan.
