UWI Open Days Showcase Over 200 Scholarships

A UWI student ambassador gives prospective students and their families a tour of the St. Augustine campus during the campus's Open Days.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Trinidad and Tobago, July 13, 2023 – The University of the West Indies (UWI) St. Augustine Campus came alive, as the hidden gem of its Zoology Museum took centre stage during the thrilling two-day Open Days event held on Saturday, July 8th, and Sunday, July 9th, 2023. Scores of enthusiastic, prospective students descended upon the campus, not just to explore the broad spectrum of undergraduate and postgraduate academic programmes on offer, but to be fascinated away by the immersive campus tours, including the fascinating tour of the Zoology Museum, a treasure curated by one of the eight faculties at The UWI, the Faculty of Science and Technology.

Visitors, from eager youngsters to curious adults, marvelled at the astonishing collection of preserved fauna, including whole specimens, bones and shells. Besides the magnetic allure of the museum, guests revelled in interactive scientific and art displays, super-sized games and generous giveaways as the campus was abuzz with an infectious sense of discovery and enthusiasm. 

One of the highlights of the Open Day event was the abundance of scholarships and financial aid options available to aspiring students - an impressive selection of over 200 scholarships and bursaries thus making higher education more accessible than ever. These scholarships and bursaries, sourced from various generous donors, signify The UWI’s commitment to bolstering academic progress and alleviating the financial stress that often accompanies higher education. 

Each of the eight faculties, units and centres at The UWI offers unique opportunities to engage in vital fields of study, at have far-reaching societal impacts. By way of examples, at the Open Days, our Faculty of Food & Agriculture highlighted the work being done in pioneering sustainable solutions to feed the growing population and for those interested in justice, human rights, and governance, our Faculty of Law showcased its fascinating curriculum that helps to shape the leaders of tomorrow. In the realm of Sports, cutting-edge programmes for those keen on merging physical aptitude with academic rigor were also on display by the Faculty of Sport. Additionally, the Faculty of Humanities & Education, which is responsible for shaping the educators and creatives of the future, was also on hand to inspire and cultivate a love for learning. 

Whether it's Food & Agriculture, Law, Sport, Humanities & Education, or any other field that piques the interest of prospective students, The UWI’s objective is to bridge the gap between dreams and the resources needed to fulfil them. For those who were unable to attend the Open Days, there is still an opportunity to apply for the September 2023 intake. The application deadline is July 31st 2023 allowing prospective students to seize this chance to be part of The UWI St. Augustine community.
