The UWI St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad and Tobago. August 3, 2023- The University of the West Indies (The UWI), St Augustine Campus’s annual World of Work (WOW) Recruitment Fair has become a much sought-after event on the calendars of all final-year students.  This year, the highly anticipated event returned to its usual in-person format for the first time since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With an impressive turnout of forty-four esteemed local and regional public and private sector companies, organized by the Division of Student Services and Development (DSSD), Careers, Co-curricular and Community Engagement Department, students were presented with a myriad of internship and employment prospects. Supported by the generous sponsorship of Republic Bank Limited, the fair became a bustling hub of opportunities.

Company representatives went above and beyond to create an engaging atmosphere, empowering students to confidently showcase their skills and competencies while seeking answers to their burning questions. "While some students demonstrated exceptional preparedness, others showed room for growth, which is to be expected. Nevertheless, it was evident that most students had done their research," remarked a representative from Woodside Energy.  Dr. Deirdre Charles, DSSD Head, explained: “The WOW Recruitment Fair provides an opportunity for our stakeholders to engage with our diverse cohort of students in a professional atmosphere.  It also provides an opportunity for our students to use the skills they have learnt to engage face-to-face with company representatives, an opportunity they may not otherwise receive.”

In addition to The UWI’s strong academic resources, the experiences gained by students through networking at the WOW Recruitment Fairs helps them to be truly “ready" for the world of work. The UWI extends special thanks Republic Bank Limited and other corporate entities for their continued support of these “future leaders”. The future is certainly bright for students of The UWI which is celebrating its 75th anniversary under the theme, “UWI at 75. Rooted. Ready. Rising.”
